U.S. News & World Report has named its top 50 orthopedic hospitals in the U.S. for 2023 and 2024, including five hospitals in Illinois.
Here are are some of the top leaders at the five best orthopedic hospitals in Illinois:
Omar Lateef, DO, is the president and CEO of Chicago-based Rush University Medical Center, the eighth best hospital for orthopedics. Dr. Lateef, who is also president and CEO of the Rush health system, has led the hospital since 2019. Previously, he served as Rush's chief medical officer. He is a pulmonary and critical care specialist.
Howard Chrisman, MD, is the president and CEO of Chicago-based Northwestern Memorial HealthCare, whose Northwestern Memorial Hospital is the 19th best hospital for orthopedics in the nation. Dr. Chrisman oversees Northwestern's 11 hospitals, 200 ASCs and 30,000 employees. He previously served as president and chief operating officer at Northwestern Memorial.
Gerald Gallagher is the president and CEO of Chicago-based NorthShore Health System Edward-Elmhurst Health, whose hospitals were ranked the 40th best for orthopedics in the nation. Mr. Gallagher leads a 25,000 member team that serves 1.5 million patients across over 300 sites. He has been an executive at NorthShore since 2017, leading growth and operations.
Allison Wyler is the president of Downers Grove-based Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, the 46th best hospital for orthopedic surgery. She has served as president for just over two years, originally joining the Advocate system in 2010 as an administrative fellow.
Karen Lambert is the president of Barrington-based Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, which is the 49th best hospital for orthopedic surgery. She has served as president since 2001, earning the system several major distinctions. In 2017, she led the system through the largest modernization process in its history.
