The University of Virginia Medical Center has earned two 2015 national Women's Choice Awards from Women Certified in orthopedics; one for orthopedic patient safety and one for patient satisfaction, according to a release.

1. The award was based on an average ranking for hospitals on various measures reported to CMS.
2. The 2015 America's Best Hospitals for Patient Safety award recognizes hospitals with low surgical complications and infections, also based on data reported to CMS.
3. UVA's executive VP for health affairs said that through UVA's Be Safe initiative, they are able to identify and solve safety issues in real time.
