Orthopedic surgeon leader to know: Dr. James Browne of University of Virginia Health System

James A. Browne, MD, is a practicing orthopedic surgeon and associate professor of orthopedic surgery at Charlottesville-based University of Virginia Health System. He is a joint replacement and adult reconstructive surgery specialist.

Dr. Browne focuses on aseptic necrosis of the hip, hip dislocation, hip fracture, joint replacement, osteoarthritis, psoriatic arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. His research interests include outcomes of hip and knee replacement, novel surgical techniques and orthopedic resident education. He has published numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters. He has won the Arthritis Foundation Award for Service as well as the Mark B. Coventry Adult Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship Award from Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic.

 

Dr. Browne earned his medical degree at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore. He completed his orthopedic residency training at Duke University in Durham, N.C., after which he completed a fellowship in hip and knee arthroplasty at the Mayo Clinic.
