Orthopedic

Orthopedic surgeon David Bruce, MD, is helping produce medical gowns for Chattanooga, Tenn.-based Erlanger Hospital and Parkridge Medical Center, reports News Channel 9 ABC.

Dr. Bruce teamed with pediatric surgeon Lisa Smith, MD, to develop the PPE in the face of a nationwide shortage caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the crisis, Erlanger Hospital has been using 500 gowns per day and Parkridge has been using 300.

The surgeons partnered with local business Wise Manufacturing, which has the ability to manufacture two gowns per minute.

The company will manufacture 3,000 gowns per day, with Erlanger planning to order 60,000.
