Indiana Sen. Ron Grooms of Jeffersonville plans to introduce a bill in this session of the state legislature to strengthen laws regulating pain clinics and prescriptions of controlled substances, according to a News and Tribune report.
The first draft of the bill requires that pain clinics be owned by a physician licensed under Indiana code. It also requires that clinics provide patients with an individualized medical plan that avoids long-term addictions and have a licensed physician be physically present at all times that the controlled drug clinic is open. Finally, it requires that physicians use Indiana's prescription drug monitoring program to ensure that there is no duplication of prescriptions before a controlled substance is prescribed for a patient.
