Cambridge, Mass.-based InVivo Therapeutics' INSPIRE study surgeons recently implanted the ninth patient and 10th patient with the Neuro-Spinal Scaffold, according to Street Insider.
Here are five points:
1. INSPIRE study Site Principal Investigator Stuart Lee, MD, and Hilal Kanaan, MD, implanted the ninth patient with the device at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, N.C.
2. Drs. Lee and Kanaan implanted the device about 40 hours post-injury.
3. Domagoj Coric, MD, of Carolina Neurosurgery and Spine Associates, implanted the 10th patient with the device at Charlotte, N.C.-based Carolinas Medical Center. Dr. Coric serves as a co-principal investigator at the site.
4. The 10th patient died from a stroke a few days post-implantation. Dr. Coric reported the death was not associated with the Neuro-Spinal Scaffold implantation.
5. The FDA has approved InVivo Therapeutics to enroll additional patients, totaling 20 patients.
