Surgalign's artificial intelligence and augmented reality surgical guidance system, Holo Portal, debuted in the second quarter, and the devicemaker plans to grow its footprint by 2023.
Holo is the first surgical guidance system to incorporate artificial intelligence and augmented reality. Mario Brkaric, MD, completed the first case with it at Indiana Spine Hospital in Carmel, Ind., in May, and Selvon St. Clair, MD, PhD, debuted it in Ohio.
On the heels of its debut, Surgalign plans to focus on Holo's commercialization and expanding its AI capabilities, Terry Rich, president and CEO, said in an Aug. 9 news release.
"Our plan remains to have between 10 to 15 sites up and running by year-end, and we are in discussions with approximately 20 additional potential sites," he said.
