Spine Leaders

Kern Singh, MD, is an orthopedic spine surgeon at Chicago-based Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush and an associate professor at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. He is a member of the North American Spine Society and fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Dr. Singh is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He specializes in spine tumors and adult spinal deformities. His clinical interests include minimally invasive spine surgery, degenerative disc disease, and failed back and neck surgeries.

"Hospital employment offers short term job security and overhead protection from the newly enacted healthcare mandates," said Dr. Singh in a Becker's Spine Review article. "But it offers these benefits at a significant loss of autonomy and control over clinical practice. Hospitals will control salaries and arbitrarily assign value/remuneration for work. Several scares have occurred in healthcare previously (HMOs) yet the system has evolved allowing physicians to practice independently. No one is quite certain as to how bundled payments will affect physicians and how monies will be distributed. To make an instinctive reaction is both rash and short-sighted."

Dr. Singh earned his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago and a fellowship in orthopedic spinal surgery from Emory University in Atlanta.
