Christopher Kauffman, MD, is an orthopedic spine surgeon practicing with Premier Orthopaedics in Nashville, Tenn. He provides care at many healthcare organizations, including TriStar Southern Hills Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn., TriStar StoneCrest Medical Center, in Hermitage, Tenn., and University Medical Center in Lebanon, Tenn.
He was previously an assistant clinical professor Diego in the department of orthopedic surgery at the University of California, San Diego. He is member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and serves on its Coding, Coverage and Reimbursement Committee.
Dr. Kauffman is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and his clinical interests include back injuries, cervical herniated discs, lumbar spinal stenosis, spinal fractures and spinal stenosis. He is also a reviewer for Spine.
"The most fulfilling part of being a spine surgeon is helping patients relieve their pain and suffering and returning them to activities that they enjoy," said Dr. Kauffman in a Becker's Spine Review article. "Just recently I participated in the care of a patient who had become paralyzed secondary to an epidural abscess. I was able to decompress the spinal cord and stabilize the spine. This patient had near complete restoration of function. It is being able to help patients in these situations that I find most rewarding and fulfilling."
Dr. Kaufman earned his medical degree at State University of New York at Buffalo and completed his residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Camden. He has also completed a spine surgery fellowship at the University of California, San Diego.
