Michael Leahy, MD, of Memorial Hermann Hospital in The Woodlands, Texas, was among the first spine surgeons in the Houston area to support Spinal Elements' "Pledge to be a Hero" program. For his participation, Spinal Elements pledged to donate $23,000 to Make-A-Wish Texas Gulf Coast and Louisiana.
He uses the Hero Allograft, which is donates 100 percent of the net profits to children's charities. Dr. Leahy was recently in the news for raising $55,000 for the local Make-A-Wish Texas Gulf Coast and Louisiana chapter and making one young patient's wish come true.
"Spinal Elements is the first spine company to donate 100 percent of the net proceeds from the sale of its new Hero tissue product to children's charities," said Dr. Leahy in a Houston Style Magazine report. "I share their vision of allograft tissue as the physical embodiment of human life deserving this level of respect. I am horned to be the first surgeon in Texas to be utilizing Hero and I hope my colleagues will join me."
He has a special interest in minimally invasive surgical techniques and performs disc replacement, lumbar microdiscectomy and eXtreme Lateral Interbody Fusion. Dr. Leahy earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and completed a fellowship at Texas Back Institute in Plano.
