Andrew Ivan Cheng, MD, is an orthopedic spine surgeon and associate professor of orthopedic surgery at Stanford School of Medicine in Redwood City, Calif. He is the orthopedic surgery residency program director and chief of the education committee in the department of orthopedic surgery at Stanford. He is a member of the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons, North American Spine Society and Scoliosis Research Society.
Dr. Cheng focuses on adult and pediatric spine care, including spinal reconstructive surgery, cervical spine surgery, treatment of spinal deformities associated with scoliosis, multiple surgeries and severe spine problems as well as spine trauma. He has won numerous awards, including the American Orthopaedic Association-Japanese Orthopaedic Association Traveling Fellowship in 2010 and Western Orthopaedic Association Young Investigator Award in 2012.
Dr. Cheng's research interests include the biologic enhancement of spinal fusions, molecular techniques of intervertebral disc regeneration and techniques of spinal instrumentation. His work has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals, such as The Spine Journal and Archives of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery.
Dr. Cheng earned his medical degree at Harvard Medical School in Boston. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at U.C. Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, Calif., and a spine surgery fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis.
