Spine Surgeon Leader to Know: Dr. Kara Beasley of Boulder Neurosurgical & Spine Associates

Kara Beasley, DO, is a staff neurosurgeon at Boulder (Colo.) Neurosurgical & Spine Associates. She is one of the only dually credentialed neurosurgeon bioethicists in the world. She participated in Neuroethics as a special concentration at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation and also completed a dual degree in medicine with a Masters of Arts in bioemedical ethics at Midwestern University Glendale, Ariz.

Dr. Beasley has a professional interest in cranial and spinal trauma, endoscopic and open tumor surgery, radiosurgergery, complex disorders of the spine including tumor and degenerative spinal disease, epilepsy surgery and neuromodulation. She has served as a sub-investigator for numerous trials, including "The Investigational Plan for the Evaluation of the ACADIA Facet Replacement System," sponsored by Globus Medical and "The Prospective Randomized Clinical Trial Evaluating the Effectiveness of Lower Body Positive Pressure Treadmill Training in Patients after Lumbar Microdiscectomy and Fusion Surgeries," sponsored by Justin Parker Neurological Institute.

 

Dr. Beasley's work has been published extensively in peer-reviewed journals such as Cambridge Quarterly of Healthcare Ethics and Neurosurgery Clinics of North America. She has also been recognized for her work with a number of awards, including the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons' Scientific Writing Award and the Distinguished Student Service Award from the Arizona Osteopathic Medical Association.

 

"I come to work every day with the goal of positively affecting the quality of life of my patients. Each patient is unique and my approach is to tailor a treatment plan that takes into account the personal goals of the patient as well as the surgically unique details of that particular patient's disease," said Dr. Beasley, according to the practice's website.

 

Dr. Beasley earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree at Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine in Glendale, and she completed her neurosurgery residency at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. She has also completed a Gamma Knife Stereotactic Radiosurgery Embedded Fellowship at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, N.J., as well as a functional neurosurgery fellowship at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
