Data from Medtronic sales representatives suggests that virtual training for surgery may be of interest to spine surgeons; 40 percent of sales representatives for iPad-based surgery simulators indicated that a surgeon who had used the app was far more likely to sign up for another educational activity.
Medtronic has several software programs designed to allow physicians to discover new surgeries and surgical techniques, so that they can go into observation or cadaver lab already having some know-how.
The apps allow surgeons to see cutaways, manipulate tools, and get feedback on how performing the surgery a certain way might manipulate a patient's health.
