32% of Patients Still Using Narcotic Painkillers 1 Year Post-Spine Surgery: Study

Thirty-two percent of patients were using narcotic painkillers a year after undergoing spine surgery, according to a new study reported in MedPage Today.

Researchers analyzed data from 172 patients who underwent elective surgery for repair of the cervical spine.

The study also found that among those who were not using the drugs before surgery, 18 percent were using them a year after their surgery.
