Teen with spinal cord damage undergoes stem cell treatment, regains some feeling — 4 things to know

Spine

A teenager from Tennessee went to Switzerland to undergo stem cell treatment after suffering a spine injury, making him unable to walk. He is beginning to see results, according to Wiat.com.

Here are four notes:

1. The teen sought treatment in Switzerland because it is not easily available in the United States.

2. Physicians first told the patient he would never walk again.

3. Although the teen is experiencing pain, the fact he is able to feel anything is a welcomed sign.

4. The teen's stem cell count is high, indicating that his spine is in fact recovering.
