Dr. Morgan Lorio receives 1st ISASS Distinguished Service Award

Morgan Lorio, MD, received the first Distinguished Service Award from the International Society for the Advancement of Spine Surgery.

Gunnar Andersson, MD, and his wife sponsored the award, which was given for the first time at the ISASS Annual Meeting earlier this week. Dr. Lorio practices spine surgery at Hughston Clinic Orthopaedics in Nashville, Tenn., and focuses his care on minimally invasive solutions for spine surgery. He was the first surgeon in Louisiana to perform a microendoscopic discectomy and among the first to employ the Interpore Cross International GEO cage.

 

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Lorio is an advocate for the spine industry and has spent significant time on Capitol Hill advocating on behalf of the spine community. He has been instrumental in developing coverage policy statements for ISASS and authored multiple articles coverage for spinal procedures.

 

Dr. Lorio has served as a member of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and Spine Surgery and a member of the North American Spine Society. He earned his medical degree at Louisiana State University and completed an orthopedic residency at State University of New York at Buffalo. His additional training includes fellowships at The Hand Center of Western New York and the Simmons Spine Fellowship. He also trained under Hansen Yuan, MD, at the Health Science Center Syracuse.
