Mayfield Brain & Spine and TriHealth, both based in Cincinnati, are working together to build the TriHealth Neuroscience Institute.
Here are five takeaways:
1. Mayfield and TriHealth have been in partnership for about 80 years.
2. The Neuroscience Institute will offer brain, head, neck, spine and advanced stroke care services.
3. The institute, which will serve as a Center of Excellence, will leverage technology and facilities from Mayfield, TriHealth Physician Partners and TriHealth's neuroradiology and neuropathology departments.
4. TriHealth plans to invest more than $40 million in equipment, staff and facilities for the new institute. Additionally, TriHealth will purchase diagnostic, surgical navigation and surgical technologies. TriHealth's Good Samaritan Hospital will receive a new neuroscience intensive care and step down unit.
5. Andrew Ringer, MD, Mayfield's director of cerebrovascular surgery, will head the institute. Christopher McPherson, MD, and Michael Kachmann, MD, will serve as site directors for neurosurgery at Good Samaritan Hospital and Bethesda North, both based in Cincinnati, respectively. Richard Curry, MD, TriHealth's neurology director, will also help lead the institute.
