Spine

St. Louis-based Barnes-Jewish Hospital spine surgeon Ammar Hawasli, MD, is working with LimiFlex to study the device’s effectiveness as an alternative to spinal fusion, according to Fox2Now.

Here are four insights:

1. Dr. Hawasli went on the news station to discuss the clinical trial and patients who qualify.

2. LimiFlex is an investigational device intended for spinal decompression surgery. The device is designed to stabilize the spine without fusion.

3. The device does not require any screws or bone grafts. LimiFlex incorporated two spring-like titanium rods in the device that are wrapped around the back of two spine segments.

4. The surgery typically takes less than 30 minutes.
