Here are six spine and neurosurgeons making headlines this week.

Roger Frankel, MD, president of Atlanta Brain and Spine Care and medical director of the Piedmont Hospital Spine Center Quality Program in Atlanta, talked to Becker's about the future of robotics in spine.

Hampton, Va.-based Sentara CarePlex Hospital expanded its neurosurgery services, which will be led by Tina Rodrigue, MD. The hospital will provide patients with surgical treatment for spine and brain disorders including neuro-oncology and neurotrauma.

Alok Sharan, MD, co-director of the Westmed Spine Center in Yonkers, N.Y., performed his 100th successful awake spinal fusion. The 100th patient was 63 years old and returned home the same day.

Coral Terrace, Fla.-based Nicklaus Children's Hospital honored the late Sanjiv Bhatia, MD, by naming a local street "Dr. Sanjiv Bhatia Way." Dr. Bhatia served as chief of the department of surgery and medical director of the operating room at NCH before he passed away in May 2018.

Jonathan Carmouche, MD, section chief of scoliosis and pediatric orthopedics at Roanoke, Va.-based Carilion Clinic and director of the Musculoskeletal Education and Research Center at Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, spoke to Becker's about big trends in spine technology.

Geocann appointed Anthony Petraglia, MD, to its medical and scientific advisory board. Dr. Petraglia is a neurosurgeon and executive director of the Rochester (N.Y.) Regional Health Concussion Program and specializes in spine and brain surgery with a subspecialty in sports-related neurological injuries.
