Connecticut nursing student dies after suffering spinal cord injury during gymnastics training

A junior nursing student at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven died Nov. 10, two days after suffering a spinal cord injury during a gymnastics team workout NBC News reports.

Melanie Coleman, 20, suffered a spinal cord injury while practicing on the bars.

She was a former All State gymnast at Jonathan Law High School in Milford, Conn.

Ms. Coleman was rushed to Yale New Haven (Conn.) Hospital on the night of the incident where she later died.
