The spine center at Cincinnati Children's Hospital has been renamed Crawford Spine Center in honor of its founding director Alvin Crawford, MD, according to The CCM Village News Blog.

Dr. Crawford recently retired as a spine surgeon after 35 years of practice.

A spinal deformity specialist, he performed more than 27,000 procedures over the course of his career.

Dr. Crawford is past president of the Scoliosis Research Society and a recipient of the Daniel Drake Medal — the highest honor the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine bestows.

His work has been published in more than 200 publications and 60 book chapters, and he's lectured in 38 countries.
