Spine

Here are eight spine surgeons making headlines this week:

Nick Shamie, MD, chief of orthopedic spine surgery and vice chairman of international affairs at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, discussed how the spine field will proceed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The spine center at Cincinnati Children's Hospital was renamed Crawford Spine Center in honor of its founding director Alvin Crawford, MD.

Peter Costantino, MD, joined White Plains-based Brain and Spine Surgeons of New York.

Erol Veznedaroglu, MD, Robert A. Groff Chair in Neurosurgery at the Global Neurosciences Institute in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., warned patients against delaying treatment for neurological conditions due to concerns about COVID-19 transmission.

Three spine surgeons — Brian Gantwerker, MD, Vladimir Sinkov, MD, and Christian Zimmerman, MD — outlined how they see price transparency affecting the field.

Manish Shah, MD, worked with scientists at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston to create a pediatric imaging device that does not require infants to be put under anesthesia.
