Texas neurosurgeon dies in plane crash

Louis Provenza, MD, a Wichita Falls, Texas-based neurosurgeon, died in a small plane crash May 4, according to a Las Vegas Sun report.

Dr. Provenza, 67, was traveling with another adult and child from Texas to Mississippi for a family member's graduation ceremony when the plane crashed into a Hattiesburg, Miss., home. The two other passengers in the plane and one of the residents in the home also died in the crash.

Dr. Provenza was a neurosurgeon with United Regional Physician Group in Wichita Falls. His practice focused on minimally invasive spine surgery and brain and peripheral nerve disorders.

He had a passion for using new techniques including robotics and artificial disc replacement.

Dr. Provenza graduated from the Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, where he also completed a neurosurgical residency.
