Jonathan Slotkin, MD, vice chair of neurosurgery at Geisinger in Danville, Pa., is the newest independent board member of PeerWell, a digital health practice focused on musculoskeletal care.
Dr. Slotkin, a pioneer in digital health and innovation, previously was instrumental in Geisinger's efforts to design a refund program for select surgical specialties and become a Walmart center of excellence for spine surgery in 2017. Dr. Slotkin is also the chief medical officer of Contigo Health, a Premier company focused on connecting clinicians, health systems and employers.
"As a physician, I've seen a lot of digital healthcare solutions, but the balance of tech and touch is always off," said Dr. Slotkin. "Touch — really taking care of patients — has been missing in the musculoskeletal space to date. We can't successfully help patients with lasting improvement, and getting back to the activities they love, without the multidisciplinary approach that PeerWell has embraced."
The company announced Dr. Slotkin's appointment and its plan to launch a new clinical practice, PeerWell Health, June 9. PeerWell virtually connects people with physical and occupational therapists, nutritionists, mental health specialists and nurses to help alleviate back and joint pain. Multiple insurance plans reimburse for PeerWell Health's services.
