A South Carolina hospital, an orthopedic practice and three more hospitals and practices adding spine surgery programs in the first half of the year:
1. Harvinder Sandhu, MD, co-chief of New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery Spine, has been selected to direct the augmented reality spine surgery program at Stamford (Conn.) Health's Bennett Medical Center. He performed Stamford's first AP spine surgery Jan. 28.
2. Chris Battista, MD, and Ben Schell, MD, kickstarted Summerville (S.C.) Medical Center's new minimally invasive spine surgery program.
3. Neurosurgeon Peter Syre, MD, is leading a new spine program at The Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center in Salida, Colo.
4. Atlantis Orthopaedics, with locations in Palm Beach Gardens and Lake Worth, Fla., aims to expand with new locations and by adding spine care to its list of services.
5. Neurosurgeon Hilarie Tomasiewicz, MD, PhD, was tasked with building a neurosurgical program focused on spine surgery at Mount Sinai Queens (N.Y.).
