Study shows Centinel Spine's total disc system's long-term effectiveness

Spine

Patients who had total lumbar disc replacement with Centinel Spine's Prodisc L had positive clinical outcomes and low rates of revision surgery, a study found.

Prodisc L is the only total disc replacement approved for two-level use in the lumbar spine in the U.S.

Four things to know:

1. The study followed 1,187 patients who had one- and two-level lumbar disc replacements with the Prodisc over 7 to 21 years.

2. TDR revision and adjacent level surgery rates over 7 to 21 years were 0.67 percent and 1.85 percent, respectively. Patients also maintained reduced disability and pain scores over time.

3. The study concluded: "Patients had significant and maintained reduction in disability and pain scores over time, and low rates of index revision/reoperation or ALS, when compared to long-term published fusion data. Also, both 1- and 2-level lumbar TDA patients improved and patients with prior surgery at the index level had outcomes equivalent to patients with no prior surgery."

4. The study is one of the largest total disc replacement groups evaluated, according to an Aug. 31 news release.
