Denver Nuggets granted $2.7M disabled player exception after forward's spine surgery

The Denver Nuggets have been granted a $2.7 million disabled player exception for Michael Porter Jr. for the 2021-22 season, according to Shams Charania, an NBA reporter for The Athletic.

Three notes:

1. The exception approval provides the Nuggets with additional spending flexibility to sign a replacement for Michael Porter Jr., who had lumbar spine surgery in December and will miss the rest of the season.

2. Andrew Dossett, MD, performed the spine surgery at Carrell Clinic in Dallas.

3. Mr. Porter has had two back surgeries since the Nuggets drafted him in 2018, according to The Denver Post. He had been playing injured all season before hurting his back to a greater degree in a game on Nov. 6.
