Tien Le, MD, performed a first-of-its-kind spine procedure integrating Accelus' Remi robotic navigation system, Linesider pedicle screw system and FlareHawk expandable interbody fusion device. He completed the surgery in March in Brandon, Fla.
Dr. Le's patient had instability and compression of the nerve roots following a previous decompression surgery, according to an April 21 news release. He has used FlareHawk in about 100 cases.
All three of the products meshed well in surgery, Dr. Le said.
"The use of all three novel technologies enabled a seamless, minimally invasive approach, which allowed for smaller incisions and a less pronounced interbody insertion profile, minimizing the risk of nerve injury," he said in the release.
