Mark Prevost, II, MD, completed the first total disc replacement at Jasper, Ala.-based Walker Baptist Medical Center in November, according to a Daily Mountain Eagle report shared by Centinel Spine.
Dr. Prevost learned to do total disc replacements at Plano-based Texas Back Institute, where the procedure was debuted in the U.S. more than 20 years ago. He used total disc devices from Centinel Spine.
Total disc replacement, which is often used as an alternative to spinal fusion, can have shorter recovery times and is motion-preserving.
