Spine

Kornelis Poelstra, MD, PhD, on Nov. 11 completed the first spine surgery based on BoneMRI, MRIguidance said.

Dr. Poelstra completed the first human case at Southern Hills Hospital in Las Vegas, according to a Jan. 10 news release. Using BoneMRI, CT scans weren't needed during the treatment workflow, and imaging was radiation-free.

Dr. Poelstra has been involved with clinical studies on BoneMRI, and the software provides intraoperative registration for screw trajectory planning, according to a Jan. 10 company news release.

"After several simulated planning with BoneMRI side by side with traditional CT scans, I was able to determine that the accuracy and image quality was very comparable," Dr. Poelstra said in the release.

BoneMRI recieved FDA clearance for the lumbar spine in November.
