Cincinnati-based Good Samaritan Hospital has become the first hospital in Ohio to earn the Joint Commission's gold seal of approval for advanced certification in spine surgery.
The seal reflects an organization's commitment to safe and quality patient care, according to a July 30 press release.
Good Samaritan's spine surgery program was established through a collaboration by the hospital and Cincinnati-based Mayfield Brain & Spine.
To be eligible for the recognition, organizations must implement evidence-based care and clinical practice guidelines, participate in the American Spine Registry and collect performance measurement data on surgical site infection rates, new neurological deficits, unplanned return visits to the operating room and pre-operative and post-operative patient reported outcomes.
Systems also undergo an unannounced onsite review.
