VSI spine surgeons reach 100th AR spinal fusion

Spine

Reston, Va.-based VSI reached its 100th augmented reality-assisted spinal fusion, according to an Oct. 9 news release.

The milestone surgery was completed using Augmedics' Xvision system at HCA Reston Hospital Center. Christopher Good, MD; Ehsan Jazini, MD; Colin Haines, MD; William Kemp, MD; and Thomas Schuler, MD, are all trained on the system.

VSI has used Xvision since its FDA approval in 2019, and Dr. Good completed the first AR spine surgery in the Washington, D.C. region. Dr. Jazini also performed the first AR hybrid spine surgery and AR-assisted laminectomy.

Xvision uses a headset and lets surgeons visualize a patient's 3D spinal anatomy in real-time during procedures.
