2 key factors can affect lumbar discectomy cost
A new study published in Clinical Spine Surgery examines the value of single-level lumbar discectomy. Study authors examined adult lumbar discectomy cases performed at Cleveland Clinic between October 2009 and August 2013, with 67 percent performed in the outpatient setting. The costs associated with lumbar discectomies differed by surgeon, and the only variables correlating with surgical costs were the surgeon and surgery setting. Read more about the study, here.
Health Alliance Plan of Michigan to cover Paradigm Spine's lumbar spinal stenosis device
Paradigm Spine announced it reached an agreement with the Health Alliance Plan of Michigan to cover the coflex Interlaminar Stabilization device. Through the agreement, 500,000 Michigan residents will have access to the coflex Interlaminar Stabilization device.
St. Luke's Spine & Pain Associates is achieving 80% complete pain relief for patients
Bethlehem, Pa.-based St. Luke's Spine & Pain Associates physicians are among the first providers in the U.S. to use dorsal root ganglion stimulation to treat chronic pain. The FDA approved the procedure in April 2016. With the stimulation, the practice has achieved success rates of 80 percent in complete pain relief, according to Steven Falowski, MD, a neurosurgeon with St. Luke's Spine & Pain Associates.

South Carolina-based McLeod Outpatient Rehabilitation is treating adolescent idiopathic scoliosis through the Schroth Method. Through the Schroth Method, providers direct specific therapeutic treatment to de-rotate, elongate and stabilize the spine. Patients can perform the exercises either sitting, lying down or standing.
