Continental Who's Who recognizes Dr. Alejandro Betancourt as Pinnacle Lifetime member — 5 things to know

Continental Who's Who recognized Harlingen, Texas-based neurosurgeon Alejandro Betancourt, MD, as a Pinnacle Lifetime member in the field of neurological medicine.

Here are five things to know:

 

1. Dr. Betancourt is the founder of RGV Spine & Neurosurgical Institute, formerly known as the Harlingen Spine & Neurosurgical Institute. Dr. Betancourt is affiliated with Cornerstone Regional Hospital Valley Baptist Medical Center, Valley Regional Medical Center, Harlingen Medical Center, Doctor's Hospital at Renaissance, Harlingen Medical Center and South Texas Health System.

 

2. Dr. Betancourt received his medical degree from the Ponce School of Medicine in Puerto Rico. He is a board certified neurosurgeon who treats brain and spine conditions.

 

3. He was approved as a surgeon and investigator for the Carotid Revascularization and Medical Management for Asymptomatic Carotid Trial. Dr. Betancourt was the first neurosurgeon to treat brain tumors with laser ablation in South Texas.

 

4. He is a member of the Puerto Rico Medical Association and Texas Association of Neurosurgeons,among other professional organizations. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He also serves as a clinical assistant professor at University of Texas Rio Grande Valley College of Health Affairs in the physician assistant department in Edinburg and at UT San Antonio Regional Academic Center in Harlingen.

 

5. He credits his temperament as his key to success, and advises other neurosurgeons to "have humanity and compassion because you will someday be in a similar situation as your patients."
