Dr. Roger Sung reducing opioid dependency after spine surgery: 5 key points

Colorado Springs (Colo.) Orthopedic Group spine surgeon Roger Sung, MD, is treating patients chronic pain and reducing opioid dependency with the Nevro HF10, according to Fox 21 News.

Here are five key points:

 

1. Dr. Sung implants the device through spinal cord stimulation surgery. Dr. Sung reported patients experienced a 60 percent to 70 percent improvement in pain reduction.

 

2. The Nervo HF10 has a 10-year lifespan, however, patients being treated with Nervo HF10 have the device implanted for roughly five days.

 

3. Dr. Sung performs the spinal cord stimulation surgery in around 45 minutes. He spent years crafting the spinal cord stimulation device.

 

4. Board certified in orthopedic surgery, Dr. Sung specializes in minimally invasive surgery and complex spine reconstruction.

 

5. Dr. Sung underwent fellowship training at Cleveland-based Case Western Reserve University.
