Neurosurgeon Dr. Jack Rock to receive AANS Humanitarian Award: 6 highlights

The American Association of Neurological Surgeons will present Jack Rock, MD, with the Humanitarian Award at its annual conference this year.

Here are six highlights:

 

1. Dr. Rock serves as Detroit-based Henry Ford Hospital's vice chair of education for the neurosurgery department as well as director of the neurosurgery residency program.

 

2. The AANS Humanitarian Award recognizes one neurosurgeon every year who has made significant contributions to increase neurosurgery accessibility in developing areas around the world.

 

3. A member of the Foundation for International Education in Neurosurgery, Dr. Rock routinely visits Myanmar for medical mission trips.

 

4. In Myanmar he offers education and hands-on training for neurosurgical procedures. In 2015, Dr. Rock headed the medical team that performed the country's first awake craniotomy for brain tumor.

 

5. In 2017, Dr. Rock led a training in Yangon for 45 residents and 25 faculty members from various countries, including Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Nepal, Singapore and South Korea.

 

6. Dr. Rock specializes in back pain, spine, brain tumors, cancer surgery, neurosurgery, neurotrauma and pediatric neurosurgery.
