Charles Wilson, MD, UC San Francisco professor emeritus, died Feb. 24 from natural causes, according to the UCSF Department of Neurological Surgery News website. He was 88 years old.
Dr. Wilson was chair of UCSF neurological surgery department for almost three decades. He also founded UCSF's Brain Tumor Research Center.
He had an interest in pituitary disorders and pioneered transsphenoidal surgery. Dr. Wilson created a research plan for treating and curing malignant brain tumors.
Dr. Wilson completed his neurosurgical residency at New Orleans, La.-based Tulane School of Medicine.
