Dr. Richard Wohns participates in Nepal-based Spine Week, performs country's 1st cervical disc replacement: 5 things to know

Richard Wohns, MD, recently traveled to Kathmandu, Nepal, to participate in the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital's Spine Week.

Here are five things to know.

1. Dr. Wohns participated in lectures on spine surgery and interventional pain management as well as taught sessions for surgeons and residents.

2. Around 35 of Nepal's neurosurgeons attended Spine Week, where they learned about different surgical techniques. Dr. Wohns also gave a talk on cervical arthroplasty.

3. During Spine Week, Dr. Wohns and his team performed three cases including the first artificial disc replacement in Nepal.

4. TUTH made Dr. Wohns an official visiting professor of neurosurgery and invited him back on an annual basis to teach surgeons in the future.

5. Dr. Wohns founded NeoSpine in Puyallup, Wash., and has pioneered outpatient spine surgery in the U.S.
