Hackensack (N.J.) University Medical Center, affiliated with Edison, N.J.-based Hackensack Meridian Health, partnered with UnitedHealthcare on bundled payments for spine, knee and hip surgery, according to NJ Biz.

1. Hackensack UMC joined UnitedHealthcare's Spine and Joint Solution bundled payment program. Within the program, UnitedHealthcare bundles the costs associated with joint and spine procedures.
2. The length of the bundled payment program was not specified in the report, although UnitedHealthcare's bundled payment program typically covers pre-and postoperative care.
3. Hackensack UMC one of 46th members of the program.
4. In May, UnitedHealthcare reported its bundled program for knee, hip and spine procedures was successful in generating around $18 million in savings for participating employers. The bundle reduced hospital readmissions by 22 percent and reported 17 percent fewer complications for knee and hip replacement patients.
5. The program includes more than 115 million employers and 3 million employees covered under self-funded healthcare plans.
