Oren Gottfried, MD, a professor and neurosurgeon at Duke University Hospital, will soon exceed his 100th on-screen credit for serving as a medical consultant for some of TV's most popular medical dramas, reports WRAL.
Dr. Gottfried specializes in complex spinal surgeries and performs hundreds of procedures every year. He also pitches plot lines to writers and helps implement the accuracy of the stories on-camera.
Dr. Gottfried's Hollywood rise began in 2010 after he received a cold call from a Los Angeles writer, and he has since reviewed scripts, answered questions from the set and helped portray all aspects of hospital life on-screen.
He believes accurately illustrating diseases, injuries and treatments helps educate the public and connect with viewers who are dealing with a medical issue of their own.
Dr. Gottfried has worked on 35 shows, including NBC's "Chicago Med," "The Good Doctor," "Royal Pains" and "Elementary." His first cameo airs May 22 on "Chicago Med" where he plays an assistant neurosurgeon.
