Spine surgeon Dr. Christopher Edwards to chair Georgia's medical marijuana program

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp appointed Christopher Edwards, MD, as chair of the Georgia Access to Medical Cannabis Commission, reports Atlanta Business Chronicle.

Dr. Edwards is the principal spine surgeon at Atlanta Neurological & Spine Institute.

The Georgia General Assembly established the seven-member commission to oversee the state's medical marijuana program, following the bill passed in April that legalizes medical marijuana sales.

The legislation, House Bill 324, allows the cultivation of marijuana, conversion of the leaf into cannabis oil and the sale to patients suffering from a range of conditions.

Commissioners will serve four-year terms and the panel will be able to buy cannabis oil from out of state while the in-state program rolls out, according to Atlanta Business Chronicle.
