Neurosurgeon John Cowan, MD, on Jan. 13 entered the race for the U.S. House of Representatives, the Rome News-Tribune reports.
Dr. Cowan is seeking election to the 14th Congressional District, which includes 14 counties in northwest Georgia.
The news comes after U.S. Rep. Tom Graves, R-Ga., announced via Twitter in December that he will not seek reelection for 2020.
Dr. Cowan is CEO and founder of innovation and incubator company Cortex Holdings and practices at Harbin Clinic in Rome, Ga., according to his LinkedIn profile.
Running as a conservative Republican, he is looking to leverage his healthcare and business experience to fend off competition from two other Republican candidates currently in the race.
