Ocean Springs, Miss.-based Singing River Health System and Gautier-based Bienville Orthopaedic Specialists are reportedly the first in the state to offer a new minimally invasive spine surgery technique, according to local news outlet WLOX.
Joseph Cox, MD, in August performed the procedure called the prone transpsoas technique, which implants a spacer between the vertebrae to improve space for the nerve roots.
The prone transpsoas technique is a single-position surgery that enables surgeons to place rods and screws into the spine without having to manually rotate the patient.
Dr. Cox expects more patients to opt for the minimally invasive technique at his practice.
