John Cowan, MD, of Harbin Clinic in Rome, Ga., was elected president of the Georgia Neurosurgical Society, the Rome News-Tribune reported Sept. 29.
Dr. Cowan will ensure access to neurological care and trauma coverage is provided throughout the state. He will also spearhead the organization's initiatives, including membership and medical education conferences.
"It is my hope that GNS is able to effectively educate the public on the role of neurosurgeons, work with hospital systems across the state to improve neurosurgical care and ultimately improve outcomes for patients," Dr. Cowan said.
The appointment comes six weeks after the neurosurgeon was beaten in the Republican primary runoff for Georgia's 14th congressional district by fellow conservative Marjorie Taylor Greene.
