Ali Mesiwala, MD, a neurosurgeon specializing in minimally invasive spine surgery, joined Newport Beach, Calif.-based Disc Sports & Spine Center Feb. 22.
Dr. Mesiwala was previously in private practice and has performed more than 8,000 procedures since 2004. He has performed 700 disc replacements in his career and now typically performs 200 disc replacements per year. He also performs a high volume of minimally invasive sacroiliac joint fusions and spinal cord stimulator surgeries.
More than 75 percent of his cases are performed outpatient.
Dr. Mesiwala earned his medical degree at the University of California San Francisco, and completed his residency in neurological surgery at Seattle-based University of Washington. He also completed fellowships in neurological skull base and cerebrovascular care at the University of Washington, International Neurosciences Institute in Hanover, Germany, and the University of Pittsburgh.
Disc Sports & Spine Center's ASC is in Newport Beach, and it has an office in Marina del Rey, Calif. Surgeons at the practice care for professional athletes, and Disc is the official medical provider for athletes sponsored by Red Bull.
