Meet the spine surgeon caring for Olympic skiers for 15 years

For the last 15 years, Sanjitpal "Sonny" Gill, MD, has helped many skiers compete in the Olympics, NBC affiliate WYFF reported Feb. 10.

Dr. Gill, a minimally invasive spine surgeon, has provided care for the U.S. Olympic ski team and has been to multiple events. Part of his role involves watching athletes train for review.

This year, Dr. Gill — who practices with the Medical Group of the Carolinas in Greer, S.C. — saw one of the athletes he treats, Ryan Cochran-Siegle, win a silver medal. Mr. Cochran-Siegle had suffered a spinal fracture last year.

"As I do this year in and year out, it makes me more interested in how they're able to recover from injury and put the pressure into a little pocket and do what they do best," Dr. Gill told the station.
