Stryker announced today it will acquire MAKO Surgical for approximately $1.65 billion at $30 per share. MAKO Surgical is a nearly 10-year-old device company that has pioneered robotic assistance in orthopedics. The company's RIO Robotic Arm Interactive Orthopedic System is a flagship product, as well as the MAKOplasty Partial Knee Resurfacing procedure and MAKOplasty Total Hip Arthroplasty.
Kalamazoo, Mich.-based Stryker will incorporate MAKO's technology into the company's already established orthopedics platform to advance the growth of robotic assisted surgery.
