Flower Orthopedics Introduces FlowerCube

Spinal Tech

Flower Orthopedics introduced the FlowerCube, a standardized, single-use bone fixation concept that provides operation and operational efficiencies.

All instruments in the FlowerCube are single-use and disposable, which removes the need to reprocess surgical sets postoperatively. The company believes that with these efficiencies ambulatory surgery centers and hospitals can save as much as 30 percent of the combined implant and instrument cost on each surgical case. Its model is "rep-less," meaning products are sold without the need for an implant rep in the operating room.

The FlowerCube implants feature the patented Flower Locking System, which allows for accurate anatomic placement and reliable locking. There are more than 200 plate options available in partnership with ZRINSKI AG, headquartered in Germany.

"The number of items brought into the procedure room for each orthopedic case today is unnecessarily excessive," said Flower Orthopedics President and CEO Oliver Burckhardt in a company news release. "It's confusing, time-consuming and inefficient. If providers are going to compete in this environment of declining reimbursements, they need better solutions. We develop our FlowerCubes to simplify the process of preparing for and conducting bone fixation surgery while ensuring clinical excellence. What you get is consistent, reliable quality with faster patient turnaround time likely."

The company has an exclusive distribution agreement with McKesson Medical-Surgical, a healthcare services and information technology company with extensive reach into the ASC market. The company will immediately begin hand and wrist cube roll-outs and plan to launch foot cubes within the fourth quarter of 2013.
