Independent Study Bolsters Use of Kiva VCF Treatment System

Spinal Tech

An independent study looked at the Kiva VCF Treatment System by Benvenue Medical in comparison to the balloon kyphoplasty and found fewer new fractures and half the cement used than the balloon kyphoplasty. The study looked at 52 patients from 68 osteoporotic fractures over six months. Those treated with the balloon kyphoplasty had the KyphX-Systems by Medtronic used.

The researchers found pain improved significantly with the Kiva system. New fractures were 12 percent lower than after the balloon kyphoplasty, and less than half of the cement was used with Kiva.

The study was published in the September/October edition of Pain Physician Journal.
