Minneapolis-based Medtronic purchased New Jersey-based Tyrx for $160 million, according to a Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal report. Tyrx produces antibacterial pouches, or envelopes, for medical devices to reduce risk of infection following device implantation. The company's main product is the AIGISRx Antibacterial Envelope, which is placed around implants prior to implantation and eventually dissolve after releasing antimicrobial agents.
Tyrx's pouches have been cleared to use with spinal cord stimulators and cardiac implants.
